Rivera stressed that the tender for the drafting of the project Benipa's "is an important milestone" that occurs after the meeting held yesterday by the president of the Community, Fernando López Miras, with the president of the central executive, Mariano Rajoy, a who requested the need to promote all the procedures that allow to accelerate the arrival of the AVE to the port city.
"The connection of Cartagena to high speed is a priority and the Government of Spain and the regional executive will continue taking decisive steps to complete the connection of Cartagena to the high-speed network because it is a common objective of the administrations," said the headline of the Ministry of the Presidency and Development.

The councilor pointed out that the Benipa baipas is an infrastructure "fundamental for Cartagena because it reduces travel times and improves its connection with Madrid and Barcelona, ​​since trains can go direct without having to enter Murcia, and establishes a direct connection Mediterranean Corridor, which will allow the direct departure of goods from the Port of Cartagena and improves its connection ".
This connection branch will be about 4 kilometers long and will be located in the vicinity of El Reguerón, in Murcia, in such a way that it will serve as a link for the high-speed line with the conventional rail line that connects with Cartagena.
In this way, direct circulations between Alicante and the port city can be made.
The regional official explained that it has not been possible to start bidding before the projects until the final approval of the informative study of the Murcia-Cartagena high-speed connection, which occurred in mid-October.
Councilor Pedro Rivera stressed that the baipas is also "very important" for the transport of goods because "it will allow our products to leave the Port of Cartagena towards the heart of Europe with better costs and maximum competitiveness".
