The Ministry of Development and Infrastructure has put out to tender the construction of a roundabout that will give greater fluidity to traffic between the municipality of Beniel and its hamlet of El Mojón, on the border with the province of Alicante.
The works will involve a regional investment of 393,000 euros.
The new roundabout will be built at the intersection of the regional highway RM-F52 and the industrial estate of El Mojón to improve the road safety of the regional highway, which circulates 2,881 vehicles a day, of which more than 10 percent are trucks and heavy vehicles.
This action will also favor the mobility of the Beniel traffic to the RM-1 motorway (Zeneta-San Javier) and the traffic along the roads that connect with the southern and eastern zones of the Murcia vegetable garden, such as the RM-300 roads ( Los Dolores-Los Ramos) and RM-303 (Los Ramos-Santomera).
The execution period will be 6 months.
The general director of Roads, Francisco González Manzanera, emphasized that "it is a necessary action due to the complexity of the intersection and the intense circulation of traffic that supports this point in which several roads converge" and added that, in addition, " It responds to a request from neighbors to adapt the way to the development of the environment. "
González Manzanera stressed that the new roundabout "will allow adequate ordering of access to the industrial estate of El Mojón, as well as to homes, isolated warehouses, farms and adjacent rural roads."
The construction of the new roundabout, he said, "will reduce the high speed with which vehicles circulate on the RM-F52 highway and eliminate intersections at level, two circumstances that raise the danger."
Likewise, "the causes of accidents that occur in this road will be corrected, mainly due to the bad perception of the intersections from the secondary road, to which is added the poor visibility, the high left turn movements and the high intensity of traffic of this route ".
Description of the works
The new roundabout will have a diameter of 32 meters, two lanes of four meters wide each and lighting.
The works include the construction of docks and urbanization works around the bus stops, as well as the construction of sidewalks, a landscaped area and a new pedestrian crossing.
Likewise, access to existing houses on the left bank of the road will be improved through an auxiliary road that will connect to the roundabout.
The works are completed with signaling and beaconing.
