The Ministry of Development and Infrastructure will eliminate a black point of traffic in the axis of communication between the municipality of Beniel and its hamlet of El Mojón, on the border with the province of Alicante.
Specifically, a roundabout will be built at the intersection of the regional highway RM-F52 and the Industrial Estate of El Mojón, which will involve a regional investment of 392,000 euros and will run for six months.
The roundabout will have a diameter of 32 meters and will have two lanes of four meters wide.
The project includes the arrangement of bus stops and the urbanization of their surroundings, including a new pedestrian crossing.
Accesses to the existing houses on the left bank of the road will also be adapted through an auxiliary road that will connect to the roundabout.
The general director of Roads, Francisco González Manzanera, presented today the work that will suppose an improvement of the security of the circulation, in a route by which 2,881 vehicles pass daily, of which more than ten percent are heavy.
In addition, "it will positively influence the mobility of traffic from Beniel to the RM-1 motorway, and the large collectors and distributors of the South and East zones of La Huerta de Murcia, such as the RM-300 and RM-303", he pointed.
"This work will solve the problems of road safety that currently exist, which are due to the high speed of vehicles in a peri-urban environment with poor layout conditions, together with the existence of access to homes, isolated warehouses, farms and rural roads and access to El Mojón Industrial Estate, "explained the director.
Gonzalez Manzanera also noted that "the roundabout will correct the causes of accidents that occur in this way mainly because of the bad perception of intersections from the secondary road, which is joined by low visibility, high left turn movements and to the high traffic intensity of this road ".
