Beniel host 23 works of Gómez Cano in its permanent exhibition hall (19/01/2011)

Cano Gómez the painter left an important legacy to the culture of Murcia.

Next Friday at nine o'clock at night, its Impressionist paintings will be exhibited in the Exhibition Hall "Pepe Rubio Beniel.

A collection of 23 works donated by a major art collector in the region, can be admired until 24 February at the Centro Cultural Infanta Cristina.

The exhibition will be opened by the Mayor Roberto García Navarro, Councilman of Culture, Francisco Coll.

After major exhibitions such as Mariano Ballester, the exhibition hall opened two years ago, have spent many artists, but Cano Gomez will undoubtedly be one of the most prestigious visit the town.

It consists of portraits, self portraits and landscapes.

Something about the author Antonio Gómez Win was born in Murcia on July 22, 1912.

From childhood he drew and painted successfully developing their innate qualities of artists under the guidance of his father, the teacher Gómez, devoted to decoration and industrial paint.

Make your first exposure at a young age in 1929, in the halls of the Círculo de Bellas Artes.

He married Teresa Estrada in 1931 and a year later their first born son, Antonio.

At the same time continuing its artistic and industrial work in Murcia.

In 1957, a grant from the Ministry of Education, traveled to Italy and studied and painted in Florence and Venice.

A year later he returned again to Italy in 1958 and subsequently travels to Paris, where resides a few months.

His latest portrait is dated 1963, with the previous 1946 and 1950 performed with different painting techniques defined three periods of the work and technique of the painter.

He travels several times to Paris and stay a while in Amsterdam where he discovers and admires Van Gogh.

At this stage, his technique has a positive trend in the use of color and the stations, used items and objects whose beauty is discovered.

Social and ethical themes appear in his paintings in which "there is concern by emphasizing those traditional skills and the humble work of hawkers and dispossessed."

"Homage to Portman" (1967), "Remembering Van Gogh" (1967) and "Homage to Van Gogh" (1980) are representative exhibitions of this period.

In 1981 Gómez Cano presents its latest anthology in the Centro Cultural de la Villa de Madrid.

Contemplating the artist himself says: "I think I have painted a lot!".

Died after a long and painful illness, on January 18, 1985.
